What Are Little Boys (And Girls) Made Of? Presents For Your Flower Girl and Ring Bearer
July 3rd, 2009You’ve decided on gifts for your bridesmaids, gifts for the groomsmen, and gifts for the best man and maid of honor. You’ve even come up with gifts for your parents. But there are two very special people you’ve forgotten–your flower girl and ring bearer. You remember them, don’t you? The little girl who heralds your walk down the aisle and the small boy who gives the two of you your rings for the ceremony? They may be children, but they should still not be ignored on your wedding day. After all, they’re part of your wedding party too. Here are a few things to consider when trying to find them a good present.
See if you can find a few family members for the children and talk to them about gift giving ideas. Maybe they have some suggestions. They may know things about them that you don’t, such as the fact that Mary likes to write and Nicholas loves to play soccer. They may also have a few leads on things they might need, such as a good pair of socks or a new dress. Helping your little ones out by giving them necessities is definitely an excellent idea, and a wonderful way to ingratiate yourself with the parents and family in general.
You may not have an opportunity to talk to family members or parents, and you may be left high and dry for ideas. If this is the case, then don’t be afraid to ask them what they’d like. Make a list of items and ask them to pick from it. They, of course, will have their own ideas for presents, and in turn, this will help you. Like most children, your flower girl and ring bearer will be only too happy to help you find some sort of gift, and their helpfulness will only increase tenfold because the gift will be for them.
So what happens if you can’t talk to the parents and you can’t get any help from your little ones? Get creative and make a gift for them all by yourself. Cards and cash are always a great idea, as are gift cards for a restaurant or an amusement park. Or perhaps you can take them out yourself and spend that extra time with them. This would also make them feel important; it would be like a party, but just for them! Taking a moment or two to make your ring bearer and flower girl feel special will stick in their minds for the rest of their lives, and they will love you for it.
Don’t leave out your special children– your flower girl and ring bearer –on your important day. You chose the two of them for their special qualities; that sweet little girl and that charming little boy no doubt understand why they were chosen, and they want you to be pleased by their performance. They have to attend all the practices and the dress rehearsals, and remember what they need to do. For all their hard work, make sure they get a reward. It’s a great way to build bridges and strengthen your relationships with them. Last but not least, they will have the pride that comes with doing a good job and many memories that will last for a lifetime.
