Live Bands Can Get The Party Started
From metropolis to village it is always the same. In every possible space, stuck on every wall and open area, there are posters and flyers drawing our attention to this weeks local music performances. Though the names on the flyers may change, the essential message never does: come support live local entertainment. These flyers request our presence at shows by live bands. They present the unique sounds of their cities.
Usually, the bands advertised on these handbills are as local as you can get. On a Tuesday night, for example, maybe half a dozen bands will perform sets at the bar down the street. On Fridays and Saturdays, there will be a smaller number of performers, but more popular and well known acts will do their shows. In either case these musicians make for one of a kind events.
Going to see a band at a nightclub, of course, is different than going to see a band at a party or hosted event. At a nightclub, the band cannot be assured of who will turn up and the relationship between performer and audience has to be negotiated effectively by the performers if everyone wants to have a good time. For parties and hosted events, however, this is not the case. The attendees are all invited and the crowd can be counted upon. This makes for a more relaxed atmosphere.
Going to see a live show is always different than a DJ experience. While DJs can pump up a crowd and get everybody dancing, the experience is usually more self-centered. DJs only provide an audio experience, rarely is there anything to look at. Dancers only have themselves to see and sometimes this can make for insecurity. With actual performers however, the best bands actually put on a show, they provide a focus for our attention, and because they are on stage, we in the audience can dance along without feeling so self-conscious.
DJs can get people excited by playing the latest pop hits, but this actually makes the DJ experience an interchangeable one. The hit songs in one part of the country are usually the same as the hit songs in another so there is very little actual individuality in most DJ sets. Moreover, it is rare for a DJ to have extensive tracks by local artists. If you want an act that can more accurately reflect the sounds and tastes of your city, local bands are the way to go.
Local bands can usually cover a fairly wide spectrum of music. If you want rock and roll covers, there are bands for that. If you want Rhythm and Blues, there are bands to fit your needs. If you want country and western, you can find that too.
Most importantly, having actual live performers is great because they connect to something primal deep within us. Our earliest ancestors learned how to make music together, to sing and to dance as a community. Even now, when we gather to hear musicians perform, that essential human experience comes forward and brings us together in a way that no other activity can.
All in all, live bands are an asset for any party. They can make every event an enjoyable one.
