Help with a Seasonal Theme Wedding

Saturday, August 30th, 2008
by Jerry Blackburn

A theme wedding is quite easy to plan. When using a theme you have a basic idea to go off of, so it is easier to plan out the details, such as food, location and dcor. There are hundreds of theme ideas that can be used for a wedding. Almost anything imaginable can be turned into a theme. One of the typical themes chosen is a seasonal theme. By using the ideas of spring, summer, fall and winter, it can be a snap to plan out a lovely wedding theme.

A Flowery Delight - The Spring Theme

The spring time is all abut birth, newness and, of course, flowers. A spring theme is ideal for a wedding because it brings in the idea of new beginnings and captures everything that both weddings and spring represent. Colors that work best for spring are going to be pastel colors, like pink, blue and yellow. Almost any flower will work because most flowers bloom in the spring. Food is also quite easy because spring is a good time for fresh vegetables like asparagus and carrots. For a twist, the wedding cake can be a carrot cake, to represent one of the vegetable from this season.

In the Heat - The Summer Theme

Summer is perfect for an outdoor wedding. The risk of adverse weather is minimized and the weather is perfect for guests. The late evening summer wedding is especially popular with the backdrop of the setting sun. Summer is usually represented by water and warmth. The color choices would be bright and natural, like blues, whites and tans. Flowers are going to be bold or delicate - almost anything goes in the summer. You may use bolder for daytime and delicate for evening. Fresh fruits and vegetables are plentiful this time of year and should be a part of the menu. The food should be kept light and easy. Finger foods or even barbeque work well. The wedding cake could be a great fruity lemon flavor, for something different.

Crisp and Clean - The Fall Theme

Fall is a time of year when people love to come together. It is a great family time and as such a great time for a wedding. Its the perfect setting for a reading of the poems for engagement. Fall is about rich, deep colors and end of season foods. You may opt to use more dried flowers that represent the season and the harvest. You can use plenty of foods that are typical of this time of year, like pumpkins, squash, turkey and other filling foods. The colors are going to be bold and rich - orange, red, yellow and brown. You want to take advantage of the beauty of the leaves changing colors and incorporate that into your wedding. If weather permits, an outdoor ceremony may even be an option. For the cake go with a spicy pumpkin or chocolate cake.

Snow and Ice Beauty - The Winter Theme

A winter wedding is all about elegance. There is something about the white, starkness of winter that speaks about simplicity and elegance. You should take full advantage of the typical winter weather including snow and icicles. It should be kept simple with simple flowers, like lilies or roses. The food should be hearty and warm. The colors can be either blue and white or royal deep colors, like red or purple. You can really go either way. This theme is perfect for the use of a horse drawn carriage or the roaring fireplace at the reception. For the cake try a traditional vanilla.

Autumn weddings are so popular and there’s a very good reason for this. All of the wonderful wedding colors can make the day so much more special when seen alongside beautiful autumn colors. There are many different autumn colors which are suitable for weddings, there are a lot of options when considering planning your autumn wedding. Father Of The Bride Speech At The Wedding Reception

Thursday, August 28th, 2008
by Shelby Wright

Tradition has it that the bride’s father is the host of his daughter’s wedding. In times past that meant paying for the reception too, though this is not often automatically assumed today. In keeping with that custom, the bride’s father usually acts as the host for the wedding reception.

For some weddings a professional master of ceremonies is engaged, especially for society weddings. At many weddings the bride’s father is will give an opening speech and propose the toast to the newly married couple at the start of the wedding reception, and continue to act as MC for the following proceedings.

There are five key steps to a good father of the bride speech.

The first thing to say is a few welcoming words that create the right atmosphere and put the guests in a celebratory mood for a happy wedding reception. The objective is to persuade the guests to relax. A good way to achieve this is to mention the wedding ceremony, how fabulous the bride looks, the environment for the reception or even the weather — whatever everybody will have an opinion about — and how much you look forward to meeting the guests and enjoying the wedding reception with them.

Secondly, as the host, the bride’s father offers a welcome to all of the guests. It is usual to introduce any special guests, especially the groom’s family and those who have made a special effort to get to the wedding. Absent guests are often mentioned at this stage also, especially those with close links with the bride or groom who have been unable to get to the wedding. A much loved grandparent or favorite aunt who has recently passed away is often mentioned at this point.

A third key step of the speech is to build some anticipation about the schedule for the reception, such as the highlight of the best man’s speech and any entertainment planned for during the reception, and afterwards. Your guests will relax more when they know what is in store for them.

As a fourth step in their wedding speech, most proud fathers want to say a few heartfelt words among friends and family about the bride, their daughter. Finding the right words to say is often the most difficult part of the speech to prepare for fathers. There is not just one way to express your love for your daughter. Telling stories, possibly funny stories, about your daughter meeting the groom and quoting poetry are popular approaches, among many others.

Finally, to direct the attention of the wedding guests firmly on the newlyweds it is customary for the bride’s father to call for guests to join him in a toast to the bride and groom. Choosing the right words for the toast is a vital step in planning the speech.

All fathers of the bride will inject their own style of speaking, humor and emotions into their speech around this simple five stage framework.

Few fathers will have much experience speaking at their own daughter’s wedding. Most will find a professionally prepared wedding speech guide is very helpful. Speech outlines or templates, and examples of father of the bride speeches, can be downloaded, along with checklists of things and people that should not be overlooked. Time saving resources, such as popular wedding toasts, jokes, quotes and poems are available to select from. Not only do such resources save time preparing the father of the bride speech - they also lift confidence.

Small Weddings ? Benefits From Having One

Thursday, August 28th, 2008
by Jim Carpenter

There are several reasons for why couples are now opting for much smaller weddings rather than big and lavish ones. The biggest problem with a large wedding is the cost and often couples find themselves still paying for it long after it has taken place.

In recent years the number of people choosing to spend vast sums of money on lavish weddings because celebrities have is quite astounding. Yet smaller weddings are now coming back into fashion and certainly many people are seeing the advantages of having one. For those who want something a little more personal and intimate on their special day then a small wedding should be considered.

But although your wedding may be small it does not mean it has to be informal, simple or cheap. Certainly a small wedding will not be as expensive as a large wedding because guest’s numbers are much less but you can still make it lavish if you want.

When it comes to a small wedding in fact we are referring to the number of guests that have been invited and will be attending this event. Normally with such weddings the bride and groom will only invite a few very close relatives and friends to celebrate this very important day in their lives.

As the number of guests invited to attend small weddings are much less then the bride and groom can actually dedicate more of time and energies in areas of their day that they consider to be more important. Sometimes this may offer them the opportunity of actually getting married abroad rather than in their home town.

There are lots of destinations around the world where people are now choosing to get married when they have a small wedding. The Caribbean is an extremely popular destination with many couples these days and for some a little more unique, couples are heading to Las Vegas. Whilst others who are looking for something a little more intimate and romantic are choosing the route of having theirs at a castle or in a mountain lodge.

For those who are on a tight budget and travelling is out of the question you can still make a small wedding on limited funds a very special day. Often a major cost of a wedding goes into hiring a room or booking a hotel for their reception, instead why not hold this at a family members home or at the bride and grooms favorite restaurant.

As you can see from above a small wedding can be as elaborate as you want it to be. Just what kind of small wedding you choose to have will depend on how much you are willing to spend. But what is important to remember is that this is your special day and it is one that you and your guests should enjoy and remember for years to come no matter what size it is.

Floral Arrangements - What Goes Where

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
by Alex Morgan

There are many different types of floral arrangements which are designed to be used in wide variety of situations. From wedding bouquets to table center pieces and party floral decorations, floral arrangements are an excellent way to express your feelings and catch the mood of an event. Beautiful floral arrangements can be created to suit every style and budget, from simple single flower blooms to great floral sprays or arches, and each one can be unique reflecting your own personal style and flair.

To get the best out of your floral arrangements you need to care them a little care and attention. Fresh flowers in particular need careful consideration if they are to remain in prime condition and even with this they will obviously last for a much shorter time than artificial floral arrangements. Fresh flowers need to be well watered, positioned away from direct sunlight and protected from temperature extremes. Artificial floral arrangements can last a life time if they are looked after properly, and this has lead to their even increasingly popularity, especially silk flowers which are not only enduring and beautiful but also incredibly natural looking.

If you decide to create your own floral arrangement, here are a few hints to bear in mind. Using florist foam will help you to arrange your design with more precision - green foam for fresh flowers and brown for artificial or dried flowers. Always soak the foam before inserting fresh flowers and try to ensure that the stems are in touching the foam at their base, otherwise they will wilt. It can be useful to cut a little v shaped notch in the top of the foam to allow you to top up with water. Try very hard to resist the temptation to reuse foam, since it will already have holes in it and so you may well be inserting your fresh stems into air pockets which will make them wilt.

Cut flowers placed in a vase or the like need similar care. The length of such a floral arrangement can be extended by using a clean container and adding flower food. Before placing flowers in the display, remove any leaves which would be covered in water, as these will rot if left. For floral arrangements which you want to keep for a long period of time, such as those used to decorate the home, it is better to choose blooms which are in bud or half open and that way you will be able to enjoy seeing them open. For floral arrangements that need to be immediate in their impact, such as wedding displays you will need to use flowers which are in or near to full bloom.

Artificial flowers need much less care and attention. A gentle blow of the hair drier will easily remove dust and keeping the display away from direct sunlight will prevent fading. However it might be helpful to consider the following if you are going to create your own artificial floral display. Since artificial flowers are quite light, you may well have to weight the bottom of the container, preferably with decorative items like shells, stones or sand, for a more permanent display, clear acrylic can be used. When arranging the individual flowers, try to think of how each one would naturally fall and shape it accordingly before adding it to your floral arrangement.

For many people however the thought of creating their own floral arrangements is just too daunting, especially if it is for an important occasion such as a wedding or funeral, when time is at a premium and emotions are running high. The best option is to then employ a professional florist to design and create your special floral arrangement. Choosing the right florist can be a task in itself, but a little effort at this stage will ensure that your are much more satisfied with the results.

If you do decide to use a professional florist, have a look at examples of their work beforehand and see if you can find anything in the design and style that you would like; if not it may be better to look for someone else. Work with the florist in creating an arrangement that will fit in with the event that you are organizing. This is especially true of wedding arrangements which need to be in keeping with the general mood of the wedding, be that traditional, modern etc and also to draw attention to the bride and her dress.

Bride to be make-up essentials:

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
by Ariane Poole

Your make-up doesn’t need to be heavier than usual for the photos. You just need the right techniques and the right products to look picture appropriate.

Foundation: - Primer is a must. The right primer will keep your make-up on longer, your face shine free and even diminish the appearance of fine lines and large pores. - Even if you don’t wear a foundation it’s a good idea to use a light weight one to even single your complexion, photos and videos tend to show every little thing. The Mineral Tint Foundation is light weight and feels like a second skin. - Don’t be tempted to apply a darker foundation to get a healthy glow it will look awful, opt for an all over false tan instead.

Concealer: - The Concealer Palette is a must!! for dark circles or blemishes apply after foundation or tinted moisturiser for the appropriate results.

Powder: - In photos too much shine looks sweaty, even if you want a dewy look keep your t-zone mat. Competently sweep a little Universal Yellow Powder over your t-zone.

Eyes: - Waterproof mascara is a must!!! what ever the situation. - Curl your lashes. This will instantly open up yours eyes and make them appear larger. The Heated Eye Lash Curl works wonderfully on even the shortest/straightest lashes. - Apply an eye base like the Crystal Taupe Eye Shine to keep eye shadow looking best. - Eyes need definition so run Gel Liner in the shade you love along the base of the top lashes and half way along the base of the lower lashes.

- Apply an eye base like the Crystal Taupe Eye Shine to keep eye shadow looking perfect. - Eyes need definition so run Gel Liner in the shade you love along the base of the top lashes and half way along the base of the lower lashes.

- For a long lasting effect try layering a cream and a powder blusher in the same colour. The Blush four All Seasons cream blush glides on reluctantly and its numerous formula means that when you sweep Zen or Rose Glow powder blush over the cream you will achieve a stunning long lasting blush.

Lips: - apply a lip base initially to keep lipstick or gloss on longer and to help prevent feathering. Use the Natural Lip Pencil and any of the Lip Shines. Or fill lips in with the liner end of the Lip & Liner Duo then add colour from the unique end of the duo for long lasting lushes lips.

Body: - Try a scented body lotion mixed with either the Shimmer Tint in Bronze or the Skin Illuminator in Champagne to give your body a stunning red carpet sheen.

Tips and Tricks to Help You Find a Beautiful Wedding Gown

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
by Jannine Topolski

I bet that most soon-to-be-brides have visualized their wedding day and wedding gown since they were young girls. Dreaming about their big day is one thing however turning it into reality is another and this process can cause unwanted stress and disruption but this need not be the case. With a little research and careful planning it can turn out to be a lot easier than you would think.

Out Of All The Styles Of Dresses Available What Style Do You Want?

The first step in finding your beautiful wedding gown is to determine what style of dress you would like. There are five basic styles of wedding gowns, all beautiful and elegant. Choose a style that fits your personality, flatters your body type, and will make you feel like a princess on you wedding day.

Probably one of the most common choices is the A-line dress, so called because it looks like the capital A. It has a tight bodice and then flares out from the waist. It is also know as the princess dress. Ball gowns are another frequently picked style.

A ball gown dress looks like something out of a fairy tale - a tight fitted bodice with a full skirt. The third style of wedding dress is an empire dress, which features an empire waistline.

The features of this dress are the full look with the dress starting just under the line of the bust and continuing all the way down. This can be considered a classic. The column (sheath) dress really needs no explanation and can be most suited to svelt brides.

Last but not least there is the mermaid dress which, as you might have guessed, has a skirt that flares right out at the knees similar to the mermaid.

Lets Not Forget Necklines And The Sleeves.

There is a place for all neckline and sleeve combinations with the correct style dress so there is no hard or fast rule. Each type of neckline can look great with the correct dress, body shape and personality type.

Try on dresses with a variety of necklines to see what flatters your features the best. You also need to decide what type of sleeves you want on your dress.

The strapless designed dress is very popular in the summer months right now however sleeveless designs and spaghetti straps are just as stunning. There are many combinations to try out not forgetting 3/4 length and full length sleeves.

A Crochet Wedding Dress - What Is It?

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
by Jannine Topolski

A word of warning, if you are considering a crochet wedding dress then you will need to order it well in advance. This is because your dress will have to be made and, depending on the intricacy, it will have to be assigned the resource to complete it in good time.

Pre-Ordering The Dress.

There is an alternative to pre-ordering a dress and that is to buy a pre-made crochet dress or an antique crochet wedding dress.

Most crochet dresses are handmade as opposed to being spun on machines, for this reason you tend to find that they appreciate in value and are quite often kept as family heirlooms and passed down the generations for use in future weddings.

Accessories For Your Dress.

You can accessorize your crochet wedding dress with a crocheted headpiece with a crocheted veil, which should be created from lightweight thread to avoid a veil that is too heavy. Organza or tulles also look nice for veils that have been worked with crochet around the edges.

You can accessorize in the style that were originally worn with the antique Irish crochet wedding dress or you can accessorize your dress with whatever suits your personal style and the design of the dress.

If you think that a veil is not your thing then as an alternative you could go for flowers or a rose in your hair. This could be crocheted or beaded to tie back into your dress design.

Generally speaking handmade crocheted material tends to be quite dainty however this does not mean that it can’t be bulky, it’s a good idea to ensure that the bulkiness of any accessories is matched against the actual dress.

Crocheted Dress Styles.

There is very little by way of style that is not compatible wuth a crochet dress. The only thing to bear in mind is that if you have a flowing long skirt you may need a stiffish underskirt to hold it out.

Crochet wedding dresses follow great traditions and can be combined with new styles. These dresses offer you the opportunity to add an immense amount of detail and customization.

Crystal Gifts Come In a Surprising Variety

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008
by Fabian Toulouse

Crystal is one of the most graceful materials ever created by man. Those who love the finer things of life owe a debt of gratitude to the first person who believed that molten sand could ever create something so fine. Glassmaking is actually an ancient. The Mesopotamians were crafting glass, by the third millennium BC and the Egyptians in the second millennium. It was, however, quite expensive, considered to be on par with gold.

Glass making changed through the centuries. Around the first century AD it was decided that blowing glass was a an improved method of shaping pieces. It was not until the late 1600s that lead crystal was invented. George Ravenscroft, who opened a glass factory in London in 1673, experimented with adding minerals to glass to make it more perfect and brilliant. It was he who first added lead oxide to glass during the melting process, making what was called “flint glass”. The addition of lead made the glass stronger and more refractive. It also made it softer. Whether because of the discovery that the new, softer material was less difficult to cut or simply because of changing tastes, cut crystal became highly desirable about this time.

There are some creative artists working in crystal today, and the multitude of articles to be had in that material is amazing. Crystal gifts can be elegant, whimsical, traditional, or very modern. No matter the occasion, there is something to please. Consider the singularity of a cut glass numeral “1″ paperweight to let someone important know where he or she stands in your life. Or for something offbeat with a link to the past, a hand cooler makes an exquisite gift. Originating in the 1700 and 1800s, these elegant objects were held in the palm of the hand as a means of cooling off. Steuben releases a new, collectible hand cooler annually.

For a wedding gift, there are many gorgeous choices, such as a crystal beehive for dispensing honey, a Waterford “biscuit barrel,” or a sleek set of five Block-glas candleholders. For the bride, a sweet crystal bridal memento box is sure to be held dear for a lifetime.

There is no occasion for which a gift of crystal would not be fitting. The density and warmth of a piece of crystal in the palm of a human hand is something singular. Luxurious crystal pieces are wonderful to receive on any occasion.
